This wiki is for preserving family history, but some information should be handled carefully. When in doubt, be kind, cautious, and ask permission.

Avoid posting private details about living people unless they have agreed:

• Full birth dates
• Home addresses
• Phone numbers
• Email addresses
• Medical details
• Financial details
• Private family conflicts
• Information about children

For living people, it is usually better to use approximate details such as “born in the 1950s” or “lives in Texas” unless the person wants more detail included.

Before posting photos, audio, or video of living people:

• Ask permission when practical.
• Be extra careful with children.
• Do not post anything embarrassing or private.
• Include who provided the photo or recording.

Family history includes hard things, but the wiki should not be used to harm people. If a story involves trauma, conflict, crime, adoption, parentage, illness, or other sensitive matters, consider writing a private note first and asking a trusted family member how to handle it.

Memories may differ. That is normal. Use Corrections for respectful updates, and include sources when possible.
